Get us out of town....

Just as it was for me in the States....the first week of school ends with a three day weekend. But instead of it being Labor Day, we got to celebrate the Queen's birthday and Mother's Day. Yes, I said Mother's Day. In Thailand it occurs in Aug. I have been lucky enough to get it twice this year.

Bangkok is a big city and every once in a while you need to get out of it. Four other families also had the same idea. So we packed up our families and rented a van (came with a driver) and drove 3 hours away to a hotel on the beach in Cha-am. We swam in the pool and ocean, played in the sand and adults drank beers with new friends. One night we headed into the bigger city Hua Hin for the night market and some awesome Mexican, made by real Mexicans (they live in Thailand too). The guys then stayed out late.

It reminded me of my family tradition of heading to the ocean over Labor Day weekend. Even though it is not the same and come the first weekend of Sept I will be a little homesick, it was still a great way to start a new year.

I got a pedi on the beach for $3.  This little girl was her mom's helper.  She was pretty funny (kept getting into trouble).
